Dear LMS Friends and Community,

As the COVID-19 pandemic continues to evolve, we want to ensure we are doing our part to keep our clients and team members safe, and to minimize the risk of any possible transmission in the communities where we live and work.

With a first case of COVID-19 now confirmed in Ladysmith, the Ladysmith Maritime Society will also take advanced measures to protect staff, volunteers and customers.

The LMS Welcome Centre and LMS offices are closed as of Friday, March 20, 2020. At this time, we do not have a date when we will reopen as future developments remain unpredictable. We thank you for your support and wish you and your families health during these difficult times.

HEADLINE: 2020 HERITAGE BOAT FESTIVAL AND KIDS’ PIRATE DAY CANCELLED

Dear Friends of the Ladysmith Maritime Society,

In view of the ongoing Covid-19 Pandemic, we announce with regret our decision to cancel two events of our 2020 Maritime Festival Season, the HERITAGE BOAT FESTIVAL and KIDS’ PIRATE DAY.

Both events draw significant numbers of visitors. They are also supported by over 100 volunteers.

We remain focused on the health and safety of our staff, volunteers and visitors and will continue to adhere to the rules and guidelines provided by provincial and municipal authorities regarding social distancing and community gatherings. It seems unlikely that the ban on community gatherings will be lifted prior to the Heritage Boat Festival (May 30th; est. 500 attendees) and Kids Pirate Day (June 6th, est. 2000 attendees).

At this stage, LMS is hopeful that the Oyster Bay Cafe will be able to open later in the 2020 Season and that the Sea Life Celebration (August 12th, est. 700 attendees) will proceed. Who knows, it may even be possible to hold a “Celebration of the Community” on the docks later in the year.

Also, we are currently developing a schedule for “Dine on the Dock”, “Music on the Dock” and “Open Mic on the Dock” and will circulate these dates shortly – however, with the caveat that all events remain subject to the rules and guidelines for community gatherings at that time.

Wishing you all health and happiness during these trying times.
