The Friends of Ladysmith launched a petition on Saturday 27th May, to coincide with a weekend of activities at Ladysmith Marina. The petition is aimed at the provincial government and the message is simple: Please facilitate talks between Ladysmith Maritime Society and Stz’uminus First Nation in order that LMS may continue to operate the Marina in accordance with their existing contract, for the benefit of both parties.
In an email to members and customers, Richard Wiefelspuett, the Executive Director of Ladysmith Maritime Society said;
Further to our earlier message related to the current uncertainty surrounding the future of the Ladysmith Community Marina in connection with the intended water lot lease transfer from the Town of Ladysmith to the Stz’uminus First Nation we want to inform you about the online petition of the community group called the “Friends of the Ladysmith Community Marina”. This group has formed in support of a continued operation of the Community Marina under the management of the Ladysmith Maritime Society. To this effect, the “Friends of the Ladysmith Community Marina” have launched a petition on Saturday, 27 May 2023 and the petition has been posted online.
